About us

After a professional career in accounting from my own accounting service to an executive with American Express, in 2001, I moved to an island that's on the west coast nestled in Puget Sound that is only reachable by boat or plane. Not long after, I took a leap of faith and went headlong into the retail business. Over the year our products have expanded from office and school supplies to travel accessories, journals, art supplies and finally to special games and toys.

 Essentials 4 Green Business Plan

Essentials 4's mission is to offer high quality green products, provide the best and accessible information for consumers, and an enjoyable "sustainable community" store shopping experience.

Our Green Business Plan approaches every business transaction in a holistic manner.  Each business decision is evaluated within the framework of sustainability; the economic, social and environmental impact.       

Our goal, as a local retail store or as a global website is for each person to experience Essentials 4, as part of a "sustainable community".   Essentials 4 believes retail stores in their community hold the thread that binds a community together.  A community store's ethics and social involvement is the sign of a community's health and well being.  

Essentials 4 assists consumers in making an informed decision by selections that have met a criteria, listed below, which is based on environmental and social factors.      

As part of the Essentials 4 Green Business plan I began to examine the impact of our niche in the supply chain and to modify my procurement efforts to make them as sustainable as possible. To the best of my ability I look for greater disclosure and transparency in supply chain logistics. I now assess each companies supply chain and procurement policies using a set of criteria.  

When I look at purchasing a particular product and consider how "green" it is compared to other product choices I consider the product's entire life cycle from manufacturing and transport to processing, disposal and recycling.

Specific criteria I use: - % PCW- % Recycled - % Recyclable - What is the amount of packaging used? - Does the product contain toxic or hazardous materials? - Is a warranty offered? - What is the quality of the product?

Purpose

The purpose of STOV is to enable our community to thrive economically while preserving and restoring the natural resources and beauty upon which our community depends

to have a strong Vashon School District is critical to our community. Like all school around the country they find themselves short on cash and high on demand to offer a high level of curriculum to our students. Essentials 4 is dedicating time and treasure to help our VSD. through this crisis.
